WHAT IS DRAGONS?
Two dragons fly through the sky having a serious debate — about whether or not they want to be dragons at all. Inspired by Eastern and Western mythologies and folklore, DRAGONS is a video game for the stage designed to be played live as a unique social experience for teenagers.
Two video game controllers sit at the front of the stage, and the action is guided by two players at a time. Every performance tells a new story shaped by those in the room. DRAGONS explores what it means to hold power, what it means to share it, and what happens when chaos is more fun than order.
Through participatory storytelling and playful game systems, DRAGONS is a performance event for high-school audiences about becoming mythological figures of power—and not necessarily knowing what to do about it. DRAGONS is a space for young people to explore and defy the expectations placed upon them. Together, they will play out an epic and ancient story, and get to the heart of what it takes to create the world we desire.
EXPERIENCE
DRAGONS is a videogame for the stage and a collective experience designed to be played live by two players at a time. The game facilitates moments of trade off between players by pausing after each episode. Once two new players take their positions at the controllers, play continues.
DRAGONS blends game forms and invites participation from its audience in a myriad of ways: using the controller, cheering on your peers, helping solve a puzzle, watching the cool graphics, and laughing at jokes are also ways of playing the game. No prior experience playing video games is needed to participate and be part of the adventure.
During the show, you can expect an audiences to be:
playing the game
calling out to offer or request help
taking turns with the controller
laughing and cheering
