1 - What is FUNFUG FORUM?

An escape room meets scavenger hunt experience built for your museum, cultural centre, or institution about the rules that govern public spaces. It’s a project about rules…

First created for Berlin’s Humboldt Forum, the work’s model is now available for touring via partnerships and collaborations with institutions around the world.

2 - How it Works

PRE-GAME

  • Each player arrives at the museum and checks in to receive a piny. They then gathers in the central lobby—where the game’s Hub takes place. Popcorn is available.

GAME START!

  • After a brief introduction by the hosts welcoming all the participants, the players are set loose. They have 60 minutes to complete all the challenges.

  • Members of the general public are free to join the hub’s audience and follow along with the players as they tackle the various challenges.

THE CHALLENGES

  • Some games include finding priceless objects in the gift shop, custom-made video games, puzzles printed on large posters, large (stinky) cheese sandwiches, dancing along with a pirate, avoiding (people dressed like) chickens, solving riddles based on sculptures or text in the museum, tossing jackets in the coat check, finding secret keys to the lockers, and many more!

WINNING?

3 - Artist Team

FUNFUG FORUM is conceived and created by Patrick Blenkarn and Milton Lim, Canadian conceptual artists exploring urgent questions around the social value of art, digital labour, and the political potential of games. Mixing their backgrounds in performance, philosophy, psychology, and digital media, their collaborations have manifested in video games, participatory installations, digital archives, and card games. In addition to FUNFUG FORUM, Patrick and Milton are also the co-creators of an 8-hour epic video game for the stage (asses.masses) and a performing arts economy trading card game (culturecapital). They are also the co-founders of the Canadian national video archive of performance (videocan).
